Denotations & Connotations - Coca cola

Analysis : Denotations - Here we see a famous brand who sells fresh fizzy drinks which shows in the advert, the drink is placed in the sand on a hot sunny day at the beach and product information at the top of the advert. Connotations -  The use of the fizzy drink in the hot sand at a beach (well most people get thirsty and low on energy from the sun and hotness) links to having a icy cold refreshing drink when your somewhere that is humid and your dehydrated. They made it a simple advert because of how well know of a brand Coca Cola is which shows the main focus of the advert is the sign of the brand which mostly attracts audience into buying what they have invented. Looking at the background of the advert, the use of the hot sunny day connotes that they are trying to persuade the audience into drinking this whenever they need a drink. Connotations & Denotations

  Denotation -  You can see in the advert a young boy who looks exhausted and thirsty. At the top, you can see it says the company name 'WaterAid' which is a company who helps poor people who don't have access to clean water. Connotations -  The advert tries to get people's attention by stating the phrase ' Dig toilets Not graves'. The connotation of the company name on the advert shows that it's obvious they are trying to help a family who are poor or don't have access to certain things such as water, food, warm showers, etc. In the background, you can't see exactly where the location is and how dry and dirty the area looks which shows they need help and donations. The word 'aid' in the company's name shows that they help people in need. They try to dig toilets for people so they can use the toilet in a more sanitary way and will prevent people from getting diseases.   Language - The title, tag line, billing block (information about the director and the production company) are typical codes and conventions found on posters. The main prop of this poster was the costume (which as a disturbing face mask) as it implies a man covering his entire face with an unusual looking face mask which shows it is a horror film. Audience - This looks like it would be targeted at an audience over 15 as you can tell by the poster it is targeted at super natural and violence. At the top of the poster, it says the name of the  director, and other films he has made which means an audience who has enjoyed his previous films, could be looking forward to watching his new one. Industry - The film was produced by Universal Pictures, Blum house Productions and Crooked Highway.  1) Which part of Media are you looking forward to the most? I'm looking forward to creating a video such as an ad or a music video for example. 2) What knowledge and skills do you hope to learn in Media? I hope to learn how the media in general works. 3) What grade are you realistically hoping to achieve in Media? I want to achieve at least a grade 6 or above. 4) What device do you use most to access the media? (The media = news, TV, music, film, social media etc.)  I mostly use my iPhone to listen to music or watch videos. 5) What is your average 'screen time' (or equivalent) on your phone each day.
